Sour patch grapes are made with green grapes, lemon juice, and Jell-O powder! They’re sweet, crunchy, and a fun swap for sour candy!
If you like my sour patch grapes, you’ll also love my caramel apple grapes which are a fun spin on the classic caramel apple!
Why you’ll love this recipe:
Who knew that covering grapes in Jell-o powder would make such a delicious treat? These are super refreshing on a hot day and an irresistible snack that both kids and adults will enjoy!
They’re tart, sweet, and so much fun to make! The flavor options are endless and satisfy that sweet tooth craving in a much healthier way.
Ingredients you’ll need:
- Green grapes- seedless
- Lemon juice
- Pineapple Jell-O powder
- Lime Jell-O powder
- Orange Jell-O powder
- Cherry Jell-O powder
These 3 ingredient sour patch grapes go by a bunch of different names, including glitter grapes, frosted grapes, and candied grapes. No matter what you call them, they’re tart, sweet, and delicious!
Sour patch kids are one of my all-time favorite candies, but I’m always up for a fun twist on a classic and these crunchy sour patch grapes are going to blow your mind! They don’t require any baking and work great on the dessert table, as an appetizer, or a fun snack!
How to make the best sour patch grapes:
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat and set aside.
- Remove your washed and dried grapes from their stems and add them to a large mixing bowl.
- Pour fresh lemon juice onto the grapes, then toss to coat in the lemon juice.
- Add each Jell-O mix packet to their own bowl or Ziploc bag, then evenly distribute the grapes among the different flavors.
- Shake to coat the grapes completely, then transfer them to your prepared baking sheet and freeze for at least 2 hours before enjoying.
My top tips:
- LEMON JUICE: Don’t have lemon juice? No problem! Fresh lime juice will do the trick too. It’s just important the grapes are well coated before adding them to the Jell-O powder. If the grapes are too dry, the powder won’t stick to them.
- JELL-O FLAVORS: Use as many flavors of instant Jell-O as you like. I stuck with pineapple, lime, cherry, and orange today, but some other fruity options are raspberry, strawberry, black cherry, grape, berry blue, lemon, etc.!
- FREEZING: Freezing the grapes is optional but recommended. It dries out the exterior of the grapes and makes the coating stick better than it would if you just refrigerated them.
Make sure you’re freezing in a single layer to prevent the grapes from sticking together in clumps. Once they are frozen, you can transfer them to a larger Ziploc bag or container for better storage.
For storing, these will keep in the freezer for up to a month. If you’re storing the fridge, they’ll last for 2-3 days. Longer than that, and the moisture will cause the gelatin and sugar to melt.
