Traditional strawberry salad is easy to make, but this strawberry pretzel salad dip is even easier! Just a few simple ingredients get mixed together and it’s ready to serve!
Why you’ll love this recipe:
This creamy strawberry pretzel salad dip is a play on retro strawberry pretzel dessert salad, but with a whole lot less prep work! The flavors in this recipe are very similar to what you’d find in a traditional strawberry pretzel salad, without all the layering required!
The classic strawberry pretzel “salad” I’m referring to is a creamy, layered dessert made from a pretzel crust, sweetened cream cheese filling and strawberry Jell-o topping that has fresh strawberries throughout. It’s a summertime staple here in the Midwest and commonly served at cookouts, backyard BBQ’s and more!
Ingredients you need:
- Heavy whipping cream
- Powdered sugar
- Cream cheese- softened
- Strawberry pie filling- divided
- Pretzels- snaps and thins for dipping
When you’re short on time and need a sweet snack or dessert ASAP, this strawberry pretzel salad dip is a go-to recipe that can be whipped up in 10 minutes and only requires 5 ingredients!
It’s a fun twist on a classic and everyone will be asking for the recipe! Once you try it, I promise you’ll want to make it a permanent addition to your parties!
How to make the best strawberry pretzel salad dip:
- In a medium mixing bowl, combine heavy whipping cream and powdered sugar. Whip to form stiff peaks, then set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, whip together softened cream cheese and 1 cup of strawberry pie filling. Once whipped, fold in the whipped cream from earlier.
- Transfer the dip to your serving bowl and top with remaining strawberry pie filling.
- Refrigerate until ready to serve.
Instead of Jell-o, I use strawberry pie filling and instead of making a pretzel crust, you serve them on the side for dipping! This dip is creamy, fruity and has the perfect amount that sweetness that gets offset by the salty pretzels when dipping.
If you haven’t noticed by now, dessert dips have my heart! If you’re anything like me and are always looking to add more dessert dip recipes to your repertoire, you’ll have to try my strawberry cheesecake dip, coconut cream pie dip, or brownie batter dip next!
My top tips:
- USE AN ELECTRIC MIXER: I recommend using an electric hand mixer for this recipe for multiple reasons! It whips the heavy cream much faster than by hand, it gets any lumps out of the cream cheese, and keeps the dip super light and fluffy!
- WHIPPING CREAM VS COOL WHIP: To make this recipe even easier, feel free to skip the step of whipping fresh cream and powdered sugar together and just use thawed cool whip (or whipped topping) instead. You’ll need one 8-ounce tub of cool whip for this recipe.
- SOFTENED CREAM CHEESE: It’s important you’re using softened cream cheese so that It will incorporate smoothly into the other ingredients. If you don’t want to wait for a block of cream cheese to soften, you can use whipped cream cheese from the tub instead.
- STRAWBERRY PIE FILLING: I love the shortcut of using store-bought strawberry pie filling in this recipe. It makes this dip super quick and easy to whip up while keeping the ingredient list nice and short! You won’t need the entire can of pie filling though, so be sure to store the remaining amount in your fridge for up to 2 weeks, or in your freezer for up to 8 months!
- PRETZEL VARIETIES: You really can serve this dip with whatever kind of pretzel you like, but keep in mind that some shapes are better for scooping than others! Pretzel snaps or pretzel thins are more of a chip shape compared to pretzel sticks or pretzel rings and work best for scooping up this delicious dip!
