Snickers salad is a Midwest delicacy and so easy to make! Chopped apples and Snickers candy bars get tossed is a mixture of vanilla pudding and whipped cream, then drizzled with caramel sauce for the perfect potluck side dish.
Why you’ll love this recipe:
If you like caramel apples, you’re going to love this easy dessert salad! It’s no bake, takes less than 10 minutes to prep and let’s be honest, there’s just something so fun about turning a “salad” into dessert!
You may think the words salad and dessert don’t go together, but I’m here to tell you they’re a match made in heaven! Crisp apples, chewy chunks of snickers and creamy pudding may not be as healthy as the green stuff, but I can assure you, it tastes a lot better!
Ingredients you’ll need:
- Heavy whipping cream
- Powdered sugar
- Instant vanilla pudding
- Milk
- Cinnamon
- Apples (I use half granny smith, half fuji)
- Snickers bars
- Caramel sauce
I’ve heard of this dish being referred to as candy bar salad, caramel apple salad and of course snickers salad. No matter what you call it, it’s delicious! You can enjoy this year-round, but I particularly like making it during the warmer months for cookouts, picnics, and parties!
How to make the best snickers salad:
- In a medium mixing bowl, whip heavy whipping cream and powdered sugar to make whipped cream. An electric mixer is helpful here to reach stiff peaks! Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine instant pudding with milk. Whisk to form a thick pudding, then fold in the whipped cream and cinnamon.
- Once combined, add in chopped apples, and snickers bars (be sure to reserve some for topping).
- Drizzle caramel sauce on top, then garnish with more chopped apples and snickers. Refrigerate until serving.
Feel free to try other variations of this recipe by switching up the pudding flavors or candy bars! Here’s some ideas:
- Use a different pudding flavor such as cheesecake, butterscotch or french vanilla.
- Try switching out snickers for Twix bars, Milky ways, Three Musketeers or Rolos.
- Go for a caramel sauce drizzle rather or caramel. Or who am I kidding? Do both!
My top tips!
- I like using a mixture of green and red apples to create a balance of sweet and tart but there is really no wrong apple to use here! If you prefer sweeter apples, I’d recommend looking for fuji, gala or honeycrisp at the grocery store.
- Be sure you’re using instant pudding. You’ll add ¾ cup milk to the instant pudding to make a thick, almost paste-like consistency. Instant pudding really makes this recipe easy and convenient.
- Feel free to use cool whip instead of homemade whipped cream. Just be sure the cool whip is thawed before you mix it into the pudding.
- Caramel sauce is best for drizzling because its thin, but store-bought caramel apple dip will work as well. Just place it in a microwave safe dish and warm it up for 30 seconds to create a thinner consistency for drizzling.
- You can make this a day in advance, but I wouldn’t do much earlier than that. The apples release their juice and make this dessert too watery after a few days.
