These cheesesteak wonton cups are the perfect game day appetizer! They have peppers, onions, shaved steak, and melty cheese just like a classic cheesesteak sandwich, but it’s all baked inside a wonton cup for a bite-sized party treat!
Why you’ll love this recipe:
Cheesesteak wontons are a twist on a classic and great for a crowd! They’re individually portioned and come together in less than 30 minutes!
Ingredients you’ll need:
- Wonton wrappers: I like nosoya brand!
- Diced onion
- Diced green bell pepper
- Shaved ribeye steak
- Salt
- Pepper
- Garlic powder
- Cream cheese
- Shredded mozzarella cheese: you can use provolone too!
Even if you’re not a football fan, you’re going to love these! They’re basically Americas greatest sandwich transformed into finger food! Plus, easier to make than you may think!
How to make the best cheesesteak wonton cups:
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F and grease your muffin tin. Set aside.
- In a pan over medium heat, sauté diced onion and green pepper in olive oil. Cook until softened, then add in the shaved steak. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
- Once the steak is cooked, remove from the heat, then add in cream cheese and 1 cup of shredded mozzarella. Mix until the cream cheese coats the meat mixture.
- Place your wonton wrappers inside the greased muffin tin. Spoon in the cheesesteak mixture, then top each one with more shredded mozzarella. Bake for 12 minutes or until crispy.
Sometimes you want an appetizer that’s a little more filling than just cheese and crackers! These meaty, cheesy cheesesteak wonton cups are a huge crowd pleaser and are sure to keep you coming back for more!
My top tips:
- I recommend dicing the onion and green pepper rather than slicing them into strips to make the wontons easier to eat. This way you’ll get a little onion and pepper in each bite!
- You can buy the steak pre-shaved, or you can buy thin ribeye and slice it up yourself. Either way, be sure you have super thin steak that is nearly falling apart when you pick it up! This is what gives cheesesteaks their tender bite!
- Give the onions and peppers a head start in the skillet. You’ll want to get the veggies softened before you add the steak because shaved steak doesn’t take long to cook, and you don’t want crunchy, undercooked veggies in these wonton cups!
- Be sure to grease your muffin tin before adding in the wonton wrappers. Not only does this ensure the wontons won’t stick, but it also helps the bottoms become browned and crispy!
- If you’re having a hard time finding wonton wrappers, check near the tofu in your grocery store. That’s where I always find mine! If you still can’t get your hands on them, egg roll wrappers will work too, they’ll just need to be cut down to fit the muffin tin.
