Crisp green grapes get dipped in caramel, then in chopped peanuts for the perfect bite-sized treat that tastes like caramel apple in every bite!
Why you’ll love these caramel apple grapes:
Caramel apple grapes are not only cute, but they’re easy to make too! If you know me, you know I love a good time saving shortcut in the kitchen, and today we’re using store-bought caramel bits for convivence and ease!
I’ve been eating caramel apples ever since I was itty bity but have always been too intimidated to make them at home. Luckily, these are super easy to make with only 4 ingredients and a microwave!
Ingredients you’ll need:
- Green grapes- washed and dried
- Caramel bits
- Heavy cream
- Chopped peanuts- I like using lightly salted
Ready in less than 20 minutes, these sweet, juicy, and crunchy caramel apple grapes are going to blow your mind! They don’t require any baking and work great on the dessert table, as an appetizer, or a fun snack too! It’s a win, win!
How to make the best caramel apple grapes:
- Line your baking sheet with parchment paper and wash your grapes, then thoroughly dry them off with paper towels. It’s important the grapes are super dry so the caramel sticks!
- Finely chop your peanuts and add them to a bowl. Insert a toothpick into each grape, then set aside.
- In a microwave safe bowl, combine the caramel bits and heavy cream. Microwave in 30 second intervals, stirring in-between until the caramel is completely melted and smooth.
- Working one by one, dip each grape into the caramel, let the excess drip off, then immediately roll in the chopped peanuts. Place back onto your lined baking sheet and repeat with all remaining grapes.
- Refrigerate until ready to serve.
Don’t want to dip your caramel apple grapes in peanuts? No problem! Leave them plain or try out some of these other topping options:
- Toffee bits
- Sprinkles
- Chopped m&m’s
- Sweetened coconut flakes
- Graham cracker or cookie crumbs
Once you try these poppable caramel apple grapes, you’re going to wish you had made them sooner! They’re a fun twist on a classic crowd pleasing treat and are one of my new favorites for serving at summer potlucks, game day parties, and casual get togethers!
My top tips:
- You could use purple grapes in this recipe, I just find that green grapes are usually a little larger and resemble the look of a caramel apple better than purple grapes do. No matter which color you use, be sure the exterior of each grape is super dry. If it isn’t dry, the caramel won’t stick!
- I like using toothpicks to act as a handle/dipping stick for the grapes. They’re the perfect size and are easy to insert!
- Be sure you’re lining your baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat to prevent any sticking. Skip this step, and you’ll have a real sticky caramel mess on your hands!
- To make the grapes stand up straight, I recommend inserting the toothpicks on the rounder end of each grape (this is usually where it wasn’t connected to the stem). The end that was previously connected to the stem has a flatter edge and should be placed down on the baking sheet.
- Using store-bought caramel bits is a great shortcut to make this recipe super quick and easy! I found mine at Target, but if you can’t get your hands on them, this recipe would also work with any kind of individually wrapped store-bought baking caramels. Kraft and Werther’s offer good options.
- If you find the caramel is getting too firm to continue dipping the grapes, pop it back in the microwave for 15-20 seconds, give it a quick stir and it should loosen back up for you to continue dipping the grapes.
- It’s important your peanuts are finely chopped for this recipe or else they won’t stick to the caramel evenly. You can use whatever peanuts you like, but my favorite is lightly salted to cut through some of the sweetness of the caramel!
- These are best served chilled so that the caramel stays firm! They’ll also keep in the fridge for up to 3 days.
