How to make the best Banana Pudding Hawaiian Rolls:
- In a medium mixing bowl, combine banana cream pudding mix with milk. Whisk to dissolve any lumps, then set aside to thicken for 5 minutes.
- Using a sharp knife, cut out the center of each Hawaiian roll, making sure you don’t cut through the bottom, then discard the excess bread.
- Spoon one heaping tbsp of the thickened pudding into the bottom of each Hawaiian roll, then press a Nilla wafer on top.
- Slice your banana, then add one banana slice into each Hawaiian roll and top with another heaping tbsp of banana cream pudding.
- Sprinkle with crushed Nilla wafers before enjoying!

Banana pudding is served everywhere from holidays to potlucks, you’ll almost always see some version of banana pudding on the dessert table. I took that classic dessert idea and gave it a twist by turning it into single-serve treats. These are perfect for a fun weeknight dessert, backyard cookout, potluck, or any gathering. The best part is that they’re just as easy, if not easier, to make than classic banana pudding!
My top tips:
- INSTANT PUDDING: Make sure the banana pudding mix you’re using is instant! The instant pudding will thicken without having to cook it on the stove and that’s exactly what we want. Once the instant pudding is combined with milk, it’ll only take about 5 minutes to thicken on its own.
- CUTTIING THE ROLLS: Make sure you’re not cutting a hole all the way through each Hawaiian roll. You’ll only want to go about ¾ of the way deep to ensure the bottom of each roll stays intact and holds all the filling.
- BANANAS: I recommend using just ripe bananas that are bright yellow with no brown spots. If they’re too ripe, they’ll turn brown and mushy too quickly.
- STORING: Banana Pudding Hawaiian Rolls are best enjoyed day of. You can make the pudding filling a day ahead and keep it in the refrigerator, then fill and the rolls when ready to enjoy.

If you haven’t taken Hawaiian rolls and turned them into banana pudding, you’re truly missing out. The sweet, tender rolls pair perfectly with the creamy pudding and once that gets layered with sliced bananas and some Nilla wafers, it’s one of the greatest treats you can sink your teeth into!
This combination of banana pudding, made with Hawaiian sweet rolls is delectable and extremely delicious! Make these easy Banana Pudding Hawaiian Rolls for a weekend breakfast treat or decadent dessert!
