Carrot Patch Dirt Cups are a fun, no-bake dessert made with layers of creamy pudding and crushed Oreos, topped with chocolate-dipped strawberries decorated to look like little carrots growing out of edible “dirt”.

Carrot Patch Dirt Cups

Why you’ll love this recipe:

These adorable Carrot Patch Dirt Cups look like a mini garden in a cup, complete with “dirt,” creamy pudding layers, and bright orange “carrots” poking out of the top. They’re fun, a little nostalgic, and perfect for Easter or any spring gathering.

At their core, Carrot Patch Dirt Cups are a simple mix of pudding and crushed Oreos layered together to create that classic “dirt cup” look. What makes them extra special is the finishing touch—fresh strawberries dipped in melted orange chocolate and decorated to look like carrots. It’s a small detail that completely transforms the dessert into something festive and memorable!

Ingredients you’ll need:

  • Strawberries- washed and dried
  • White chocolate chips
  • Vegetable oil
  • Orange food coloring
  • Cold milk
  • Instant chocolate pudding
  • Heavy whipping cream
  • Powdered sugar
  • Oreos- crushed

One of the best things about these cups is how easy they are to make. There’s no baking involved, no complicated steps, and no need for fancy equipment. You can throw them together in under an hour, which makes them perfect if you’re short on time but still want something that looks impressive. Even better, they’re the kind of dessert that doesn’t have to be perfect to look good. A slightly messy “garden” just adds to the charm.

They’re especially great for Easter because they capture that fresh, playful spring vibe. The contrast between the dark Oreo “soil” and the bright orange strawberries makes them pop on any table. Whether you’re hosting brunch, bringing a dish to a family gathering, or putting together treats for kids, these fit right in without feeling overdone.

Speaking of kids, this is one of those recipes that doubles as an activity. Crushing cookies, layering pudding, and dipping strawberries are all simple enough for little hands to help with. It’s a fun way to get everyone involved, and honestly, decorating the strawberries to look like carrots might be the best part.

How to make the best Carrot Patch Dirt Cups:

  • In a small microwave safe bowl, combine the white chocolate chips and vegetable oil. Microwave in 30 second intervals, stirring in between, until melted and smooth.
  • Drop in the orange food coloring to reach your desired shade of orange, then stir again to combine.
  • Working with one strawberry at a time, hold each washed and dried strawberry by the leaves, lifting them up so they don’t get covered, and dip to coat in the melted chocolate.
  • Shake or tap off any excess melted chocolate back into the bowl, then place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat, and repeat with the remaining strawberries.
  • Transfer the remaining melted chocolate into a ziploc bag, cut off one end, and drizzle over the strawberries to make horizontal lines, then place the dipped strawberries in the fridge to set.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine cold milk and instant chocolate pudding mix. Whisk to get out any lumps, then set aside to thicken for 5 minutes.
  • In the meantime, combine heavy whipping cream and powdered sugar in a separate bowl. Whip to form stiff peaks, then gently fold the whipped cream into the thickened pudding. Set aside.
  • Add your Oreo cookies to the bowl of a food processor and pulse to crush the cookies into tiny crumbs. You can also crush them with a Ziploc bag and rolling pin if you don’t have a food processor.
  • Grab your cups of choice, then begin layering the Oreo crumbs with the pudding mixture. You’ll start with Oreos on the bottom, then pudding, repeat one more time, and top with more Oreo crumbs. You’ll end up with 5 layers in each cup.
  • When you’re done layering, top each pudding cup with two “carrot” strawberries and refrigerate until ready to enjoy!

Of course, they’re not just cute—they actually taste really good. The creamy pudding and crunchy Oreos are already a classic combination, and the fresh strawberry on top adds a nice balance. It keeps the dessert from feeling too heavy and gives it a slightly fresher, lighter bite that works perfectly for spring.

Another reason people love Carrot Patch Dirt Cups is how flexible they are. You can switch up the pudding flavor, use different cookies, or even add little extras like gummy worms or coconut “grass” if you want to get creative. But even in their simplest form, they still stand out.

If you’re looking for an easy Easter dessert that feels festive without being stressful, this is one to try. Carrot Patch Dirt Cups hit that sweet spot between cute and practical. They look like you spent way more time on them than you actually did, and they’re almost guaranteed to be the first thing gone from the dessert table!

My top tips:

  • MELTING CHOCOLATE: I recommend microwaving the chocolate in 30 second intervals to prevent any burning. I also like adding vegetable oil to the chocolate to thin it out a little and make it a better consistency for dipping. You could use coconut oil for a similar result.
  • CANDY MELTS: If you don’t want to mess around trying to color white chocolate with orange food coloring, feel free to pick up a bag of orange colored candy melts at a craft store like Hobby Lobby, Michael’s, or Jo-Ann’s. You can also order them online and sometimes even find them at places like Target or Wal-Mart during certain times of the year.
  • DIPPING STRAWBERRIES: Make sure the strawberries are completely dry. You want to avoid water coming into contact with the melted chocolate, which can cause it to seize or not cling to the strawberries like it is supposed to.
  • DRIZZLING: I find it helpful to transfer the remaining melted chocolate into a Ziploc bag before cutting off one end and drizzling. This makes the chocolate drizzle more evenly and keeps things mess free. You might need to warm it up in the microwave for a few seconds first to make sure it is still molten after dipping all the strawberries.
  • INSTANT PUDDING: Make sure you’re using instant pudding! This ensures the pudding will thicken when added to cold milk. No stovetop needed.
  • HEAVY CREAM VS COOL WHIP: To make this recipe even easier, feel free to skip the step of whipping fresh cream with powdered sugar together and just use thawed cool whip (or whipped topping) instead. You’ll need one 8-ounce tub of thawed Cool Whip for this recipe.
  • FOOD PROCESSOR VS ZIPLOC BAG: If you don’t have a food processor on hand to crush the Oreos, you can definitely do it by hand! You’ll just add your Oreos to a large Ziploc bag and use something heavy, like a rolling pin, to smash the cookies into crumbs.
  • CLEAR CUPS: I used 9 oz cups for assembling my Carrot Patch Dirt Cups. The clear cups are preferred because they allow you to see the layers of pudding and Oreos throughout!
  • STORING: I always find that chocolate covered strawberries are best within a day of making them, but can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. I do not recommend freezing.
