Why you’ll love this recipe:

Jello shots are famous for bringing the party, and this playful version of Aperol Spritz Jello Shots is bound to please cocktail lovers.

This Aperol Spritz Jello Shot recipe in orange peels is a playful and refreshing twist on the classic Italian cocktail, perfect for summer parties or festive gatherings. These Jello shots are served in hollowed-out orange halves, adding a fun and edible twist to the presentation.

Fun Jello shots made in fruit rinds, my Aperol Spritz Jello Shots are fun, colorful, and tasty! They make for a great take-along to any BBQ or party this summer.

Ingredients you’ll need:

  • Oranges
  • Orange flavored Jello mix
  • Prosecco
  • Aperol

Jello shots are a party classic, but they do involve a lot of shot glasses – and either you go the disposable route (which is a lot of waste) or invest in several dozen glass shot glasses (which is a lot of money).

Today, I’m sharing with you a fun and fruity third option – serving Jello shots in fruit peels! Orange rinds, to be precise. This aperol spritz jello shot recipe is placed inside of hollowed-out orange rinds and then set to perfection. The rinds are sliced further into bite-sized, individual slices for the perfect party treat!

How to make the best Aperol Spritz Jello Shots:

  • Slice your oranges in half, then remove the fruit from the orange peels. Be careful not to dig down too deep and make a hole in your peel—all your Jello will leak out of the bottom if you do! Save the fruit for a snack or smoothie later!
  • Add 2 cups of water into a medium pot and bring to a boil. Pour the orange Jello mix into a large mixing bowl, then pour in the boiling water and whisk to dissolve the Jello powder.
  • Let the mixture cool slightly, then add in the prosecco and Aperol, stir to combine, and pour into a measuring cup or some other container with a spout.
  • Place your hollowed out orange halves in muffin tins to keep them stable, then pour in the Jello mixture to the top of each orange half.
  • Place your oranges in the fridge for a few hours until the Jello has set. Slice each half into three wedges before enjoying!

At their simplest, Jello shots are a mixture of flavored gelatin and alcohol that’s chilled until set in the fridge. I upped the ante with these Aperol and prosecco shots made directly in halved orange shells. Slicing the crowd-pleasing cocktail into wedges makes for an adorable shot that’s easy to pick up and eat, no plastic cups needed!

Like most Jello shot recipes, these can be made in advance and kept in the refrigerator for hours, or even overnight. Try this boozy treat the next time you want the perfect party shots!

My top tips:

  • HOLLOWING OUT THE ORANGES: It’s important to not dig down too deep and make a hole in your peels while removing the fruit from the oranges. I find that using a grapefruit spoon here is helpful to avoid breaking the peels.
  • COOLING: You’ll want to let the dissolved Jello and boiling water cool slightly before adding in your prosecco and aperol. If the mixture is too hot, it may cause the alcohol to evaporate.
  • MUFFIN TINS: Using muffin tins as stabilizers for the orange peels makes life so much easier! If you don’t have muffin tins, you can place the peels upright in airtight containers, just make sure they are snug and not wobbly before filling them.
  • POURING: Transferring the Jello mixture into a measuring cup or some other container with a spout makes it much easier to then pour the mixture evenly into the orange peels without making a mess!
  • CHILLING: These Aperol Spritz Jello Shots will need a minimum of 4 hours to set up in the fridge before slicing. I recommend making them a day in advance and letting them chill overnight.
  • SLICING: The size of your oranges will determine how many Jello shots each orange half should be sliced into. For medium-sized oranges, I would stick to 3 Jello shot wedges per half orange.
  • STORING: Aperol Spritz Jello Shots can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. Freezing Jello shots is not recommended, as the gelatin can break down and make them watery or mushy.
