If you like these taco crackers, you’ll love my ranch snack mix and cheesy ranch ritz bits too! They’re both packed with tangy, herby, and cheesy flavor that’s completely addicting!
Why you’ll love this recipe:
Looking for a snack other than the usual chips and pretzels? Oyster crackers coated in taco seasoning is the perfect way to upgrade your favorite crunchy oyster crackers! They’re great for setting out at parties, bringing on road trips, or topping your hearty soups and chilis!
This southwest flare on traditional oyster crackers is a fun switch up from the popular ranch seasoning crackers. They’re a tasty snack that can be made from ingredients you probably already have sitting around in your pantry!
Ingredients you’ll need:
- Oyster crackers
- Taco seasoning
- Garlic powder
- Smoked paprika
- Dried Oregano
- Vegetable oil- canola oil is fine too!
- Lime juice
Taco seasoning isn’t just for tacos! It adds instant flavor to so many recipes, including these taco oyster crackers.
Packed with tangy, herby, and cheesy flavor, I guarantee you won’t be able to keep your hands out of the bowl! Good thing these are ready in less than 30 minutes and only require 7 ingredients to make! You’ll be whipping up another batch in no time!
How to make the best taco crackers:
- Preheat your oven to 250 degrees F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine oyster crackers. Taco seasoning, garlic powder, smoked paprika, dried oregano and vegetable oil.
- Mix to evenly distribute the seasonings, then transfer the crackers to your prepared baking sheet and spread into an even layer. Bake for 20 minutes, tossing halfway through.
- Drizzle with lime juice, then let cool completely before storing or enjoying!
You can easily double or triple this recipe to feed a crowd. These crackers are perfect to serve or gift around the holidays and can disappear fast!
Don’t worry about making too many! Even if you do, these crackers will keep for several weeks stored in an airtight bag or container in your pantry.
My top tips:
- SPICE LEVELS: For a little extra kick, toss in some red pepper flakes, or use a spicy taco seasoning packet! My spice tolerance is low, so the way this recipe is written just gives them a little smokey flavor.
- TACO SEASONING: I find it most convenient to use a store-bought packet of taco seasoning, but you can use your favorite homemade taco seasoning mix instead! For reference, if you’re using the big bottle of taco seasoning, 3 tbsp of seasoning equals 1 taco seasoning packet.
- MIX EVENLY: These crackers taste best when evenly coated in the seasonings. I recommend using a BIG mixing bowl that has plenty of extra room for stirring. You can also add everything to a Ziploc bag and shake to coat in the oil and seasonings.
- LIME JUICE: It may feel a little weird drizzling lime juice on top of these crackers but trust me, nothing will get soggy, and you’ll be left with the best fresh lime flavor that adds to the tanginess of these taco seasoned crackers!
- LET COOL: Let the mix cool completely on your baking sheet before transferring it to a container. You want to be sure the taco coating cools down and adheres to your crackers to get the most flavorful result!
- STORING: Don’t refrigerate your snack mix. It will become soggy! Leave it in an airtight container or Ziploc bag and it’ll stay fresh for 2-3 weeks stored at room temperature.

These look really good. I had a question on vegetable oil. Would olive oil or avocado oil work as well?
Thank you
Sophie says
Hi David, either one of those are great substitutes for the vegetable oil! Hope you try it out!
