How to make the best nutter butter acorns:
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat, then break (or carefully cut) nutter butter cookies in half crosswise.
- Pour the sprinkles into a small bowl and set aside. Add your chocolate chips to a microwave safe bowl, then microwave in 30 second intervals, stirring in-between, until melted and smooth.
- Dip the cut side of each nutter butter cookie about ¼of the way into the melted chocolate, then immediately into the bowl of chocolate sprinkles.
- Break each pretzel stick into 4 pieces, then place a piece of pretzel stick into the center of the cookie edge. You may need to shift the sprinkles slightly to make space.
- If the pretzel piece won’t stick, dip one end of the pretzel stick into the melted chocolate and attach again. Then place onto your prepared baking sheet.
- Transfer to the fridge or freezer to set the chocolate before enjoying!
I love how nutter butter acorns use store-bought cookies, so there’s no need to turn on the oven! They really couldn’t be any easier to make. Simple enough to whip up day of or make in advance. Even better, they’re easily portable when you want to share!
The simplicity of these makes them perfect for Thanksgiving. Everything that you usually cook on Thanksgiving is so time consuming and so hands on. So, it’s nice to be able to make an easy dessert that doesn’t require too much effort.
My top tips:
- NUTTER BUTTER COOKIES: You’ll want to go for the full-sized nutter butter cookies here. Regular or double stuffed with both work!
- MELTING CHOCOLATE: I recommend microwaving the chocolate in 30 second intervals to prevent any burning. If you’d rather melt it over a double boiler on the stove, you can do that too!
- SPRINKLES: Chocolate jimmies are my favorite sprinkles to use for this cute nutter butter acorns! Chocolate nonpareils sprinkles or fall themed sprinkles can be substituted.
- PRETZEL STICKS: It’s important the pretzel sticks are broken into smaller pieces so that they’ll easily stick to the cookies. If you’re having trouble getting them to adhere, add a little extra chocolate onto the pretzel, then stick it onto the cookie.
- CHILLING: You want to let these chill in the fridge or freezer for a few minutes to harden the chocolate before storing or enjoying!
- STORING: I recommend storing these nutter butter acorns in an airtight container at room temperature. Placing them in the refrigerator may cause the cookies to soften and become stale.
