How to make the best Cookie Dough Rice Krispie Treats:
- Unwrap the Rice Krispie Treats and place them on a lined baking sheet, then set aside.
- In a medium mixing bowl, cream together softened butter and brown sugar. Once smooth, mix in the milk and vanilla extract.
- In a microwave safe bowl, microwave your flour for 60-90 seconds, stirring halfway through. Sprinkle in the heat-treated flour and mix to form a dough, then fold in ½ cup of mini chocolate chips.
- Roll the cookie dough into 2 tbsp sized balls, then place 1 ball on top of each Rice Krispie Treat.
- Carefully flatten the cookie dough balls onto the surface of each Rice Krispie Treat, spreading all the way to the edges.
- In a microwave safe bowl, combine the semi-sweet chocolate chips and 1 tsp vegetable oil. Microwave in 30 second intervals, stirring in-between, until melted and smooth.
- Drizzle the melted chocolate over the Cookie Dough Rice Krispie Treats and immediately sprinkle with remaining mini chocolate chips.
- Transfer to the fridge or freezer for 15 minutes to set the chocolate drizzle. Once set, carefully break off the excess candy-coating pieces around each treat before enjoying!

Cookie Dough Rice Krispie Treats stand out because they combine classic marshmallow crunch with rich cookie dough flavor. You get the nostalgic taste of raw cookie dough safely, without baking, thanks to egg-free dough and heat-treated flour! They also have a great texture contrast. Crispy cereal, gooey marshmallow, and soft cookie dough make them more indulgent and interesting than regular Rice Krispie treats.
These treats are best for parties, potlucks, bake sales, holidays, or anytime you’re craving cookie dough but don’t want to bake. They feel familiar but elevated, so both kids and adults love them.
Rice Krispie Treats are a childhood classic, and cookie dough has a fan base of its own. Combining them creates a dessert that feels both familiar and exciting. It’s a fun twist on traditional Rice Krispie Treats and a creative way to enjoy cookie dough without turning on the oven.

My top tips:
- ELECTRIC MIXER: I do recommend bringing out your electric mixer for this cookie dough because it makes combining the ingredients a breeze and whips a lot of air into the dough making it extra fluffy and delicious.
- HEAT TREATING FLOUR: Heat treating the raw flour is an important step to ensuring this cookie dough is completely safe to eat. You’ll add the flour into a microwave safe bowl and microwave for 60-90 seconds to get rid of any unwanted bacteria, then you’re good to go!
- ROLLING: If you’re having a hard time rolling the dough into balls because it’s sticking to your hands, place the cookie dough in the freezer for 15 minutes before you start rolling into balls to make it a little easier to handle. The dough is soft and can become sticky if you have warm hands.
- COOKIE DOUGH BALLS: The softer the cookie dough balls are, the easier it’ll be to flatten them onto each Rice Krispie Treat. Using softened butter in the cookie dough really helps with this.
- VEGETABLE OIL: Adding a little vegetable oil to the chocolate chips is my secret trick for silky smooth chocolate every time! The vegetable oil thins out the chocolate and makes it much easier to drizzle over the Rice Krispie Treats.
- CHOCOLATE DRIZZLE: I find it helpful to transfer the melted chocolate into a Ziploc bag before cutting off one end and drizzling. This makes the chocolate drizzle more evenly and keeps things mess free.
- TOPPING: The extra mini chocolate chips as a garnish are completely optional and can be switched up for sprinkles depending on the holiday or occasion! It’s important to add the toppings while the chocolate drizzle is still wet. The wet chocolate acts as a glue, then once the chocolate sets, the toppings will stay in place.
- CHILLING: You can let these set at room temperature, but it will take hours for the chocolate to fully harden. To speed up the process, feel free to place these Cookie Dough Rice Krispie Treats in the fridge or freezer for 15 minutes to set the chocolate drizzle. Once set, carefully break off the excess candy-coating pieces around each cookie before enjoying.
- STORING: Once these Rice Krispie Treats are fully set, I like storing any leftovers in an airtight container or Ziploc bag in the fridge for up to 1 week. I do recommend letting them come to room temperature before enjoying, so the Rice Krispie Treats soften a little.
