Fluffy and sweet hot chocolate dip will be a hit at your next party, with all the flavors of hot cocoa in an irresistible cool and creamy dip!

hot chocolate dip

If dessert dips are your jam, you’ll have to try my brownie batter dip, and peanut butter cup cheesecake dip too!

Why you’ll love this recipe:

Creamy and light, this chocolatey dip is a party favorite. It’s so easy to stir up, too. If you’re looking for a quick holiday treat, hot chocolate dip may be just the thing!

This hot chocolate dip is smooth, creamy, and filled with hot chocolate flavor. I’m not sure about you, but when I think of hot chocolate, I think of creamy hot cocoa with lots of mini marshmallows on top. This dip combines all those things in one bite!

Ingredients you’ll need:

  • Cream cheese- softened
  • Marshmallow fluff
  • Whipping cream
  • Hot cocoa mix

You know those desserts that you just want to eat with a spoon? This dip is one of them! You just cannot get enough, plus it is SO simple to make. Ready in just 5 minutes, this will become a staple at all your holiday parties!

What’s even better is that it’s a no-bake dessert and can be served with a variety of dippers! Oreos, graham crackers, nilla wafers, fudge stripe cookies, and animal crackers are a few of my favorites! Fresh fruit such as sliced strawberries would be delicious here too!

How to make the best hot chocolate dip:

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, marshmallow fluff, and whipping cream.
  • Using an electric mixer, whip until the mixture is smooth and slightly thickened.
  • Pour in your hot cocoa mix, then whip with the electric mixer again until fluffy.
  • Transfer the dip to your serving bowl, then garnish with mini marshmallows and mini chocolate chips.
  • Refrigerate until serving!

The name of this dip can be a little bit misleading. Hot chocolate dip incorporates all the comfort of a mug of steaming hot cocoa including the gooey marshmallows, only it’s cool and creamy. It tastes like a mug of hot chocolate in dip form!

The best part of enjoying your hot cocoa in dip form is there is no waiting for it to cool down! This sweet dip is cool and creamy, not hot. So even though this is perfect for winter, you can enjoy the taste of cocoa any time of year!

My top tips:

  • SOFTENED CREAM CHEESE: It’s very important that you’re using softened cream cheese in this recipe to avoid ending up with a lumpy dip. Cold cream cheese just doesn’t incorporate into the other ingredients as smoothly as softened cream cheese does.
  • HOT COCOA MIX: I like using a milk chocolate cocoa mix in this recipe. The sweetness from the cocoa mix will work alongside the marshmallow fluff to balance out the tang and richness of the cream cheese and whipping cream.
  • ELECTRIC MIXER: I do recommend bringing out your electric mixer for this dip because it makes combining the ingredients a breeze and whips a lot of air into the dip making it extra light and fluffy!
  • TOPPING: Hot chocolate wouldn’t be hot chocolate without some mini marshmallows, so feel free to top this dip with as many as you’d like! I also added a few mini chocolate chips, but you could do holiday sprinkles, or even crushed candy canes if you desire!
  • STORING: In my opinion, hot chocolate dip is best served cold so feel free to make it in advance! It’ll keep well covered in the fridge for up to 5 days!
  • PREPPING IN ADVANCE: As this dip chills in the fridge, it thickens slightly. If you’ve made this in advance and want a fluffier texture, I recommend letting it sit out at room temperature for 20 minutes before enjoying.

This is probably the most less-than-intelligent-question you have ever received. Whipping cream is one of this recipe’s ingredients. I was told that whipping cream has a lower milk fat content than heavy whipping cream. Not one store in my area carries whipping cream. I do have heavy whipping cream—may I use that?
I have been really looking forward to making your Hot Chocolate Dip, and as previously stated, whipping cream is non existent. Please advise me what I may use. I shall thank you in advance.

Hi Danny – heavy whipping cream will work great here!

I am looking foward to making your Hot Chocolate Dip. In reference to your last comment; i.e., “refrigerate until serving”, would I be “safe” in assuming that I may refrigerate the dip overnight (or would that alter the taste?) or for just a few hours before serving? I must add there are a other Hot Chocolate Dip recipes; however, your recipe is the only one that truly appealed to me.
Also, I greatly appreciate your “Top Tips” information. Thank you!

Hi Karen! This dip can be enjoyed right away, but the flavor deepens after an hour or 2 in the fridge. It can be stored in the fridge for up to 4 days – so refrigerating overnight before enjoying would be completely fine! I’m glad my tips are helpful! Hope you try it! 馃檪

Dear Sophie–Let’s see….hmmmm…I commented how much I “appreciated” your ” top tips” and in less than one minute(after submitting my questions), I reviewed the recipe I had printed out and read your comment UNDER ”TOP TIPS”. There were your magical words…”It’ll keep well covered in the fridge for up to 5 days!” GAD! I thought I had an IQ equal to a carrot. Apparently, that may be questionable.
You were more than gracious in answering my question(s) and not responding with ” the answer is in the top tips”. Thank you Sophie! P.S. I also appreciate that you take the time to make a video of your recipes.
