Why you’ll love this recipe:

Looking for a sweet snack that’s adorably pink, ridiculously easy, and guaranteed to disappear fast? Strawberry Puppy Chow is about to become your new favorite recipe! This twist on classic puppy chow (also known as muddy buddies) swaps chocolate and peanut butter for bright, fruity strawberry flavor—creating a pastel pink treat that’s perfect for Valentine’s Day, Easter, baby showers, or anytime you want something fun and festive.

If you’re a fan of traditional puppy chow and want something a little different, Strawberry Puppy Chow is the perfect switch-up. It keeps everything people love about the classic version while adding a fresh, fruity flavor and a playful look that feels perfect for spring and special occasions. Once you make it once, it tends to become a repeat recipe.

Best of all? Strawberry Puppy Chow uses just a few simple ingredients, takes minutes to make, and tastes like a nostalgic strawberry dessert you’ll crave again and again.

Ingredients you’ll need:

  • Rice Chex cereal
  • White chocolate chips
  • Vegetable oil
  • Freezer-dried strawberries
  • Powdered sugar

Strawberry Puppy Chow is a no-bake snack made by coating crispy rice cereal in a strawberry-flavored mixture, then tossing it with powdered sugar for that signature sweet crunch. The result is a light, crisp, pink puppy chow that’s equal parts creamy, fruity, and crunchy.

Unlike traditional puppy chow—which leans rich and chocolatey—this strawberry version is bright, sweet, and refreshing, making it perfect for springtime holidays and warm-weather parties.

Strawberry Puppy Chow is one of those treats that feels almost too easy for how good it is. If you’ve ever made classic puppy chow before, this pink, strawberry-flavored version will feel instantly familiar—but also way more fun. It’s sweet, crunchy, no-bake, and comes together in minutes, which makes it perfect for everything from last-minute parties to casual weekend snacking.

How to make the best Strawberry Puppy Chow:

  • Add the Chex cereal into a large mixing bowl, then set aside.
  • In a microwave safe bowl, combine the white chocolate chips and vegetable oil. Microwave in 30 second intervals, stirring in-between, until melted and smooth.
  • Pour the melted white chocolate into your bowl of Chex cereal, then gently mix until the cereal is evenly coated.
  • Add the freeze-dried strawberries into the bowl of your food processor and pulse a few times to crush them into a powder.
  • In a medium mixing bowl, combine the powdered sugar with your freeze-dried strawberry powder, then pour this into the bowl of Chex and toss to coat.
  • Transfer the puppy chow onto a baking sheet, spread it into an even layer and let cool completely before storing or enjoying.

What really sets Strawberry Puppy Chow apart is how simple the process is. There’s no oven, no chilling time, and no complicated steps. You melt a few ingredients, coat the cereal, toss it in powdered sugar, and you’re done. Even if you don’t consider yourself much of a baker, this is a recipe you can confidently pull off.

The pastel pink color is another huge reason people love this treat. Strawberry Puppy Chow naturally turns a soft, pretty pink that feels made for Valentine’s Day and Easter. It looks adorable served in a big bowl at a party or packaged up in clear bags for gifting. It’s festive without needing sprinkles, food coloring, or extra decorating, which makes it especially appealing when you want something cute but low-effort.

Flavor-wise, Strawberry Puppy Chow is sweet, light, and incredibly snackable. It has a bright strawberry taste that’s creamy and slightly tangy, balanced by the crunch of the cereal and the soft powdered sugar coating. It’s not heavy or overly rich, which means it doesn’t feel like too much after a handful—or three. If you love strawberry-flavored desserts or grew up with strawberry shortcake and similar treats, this hits that nostalgic sweet spot.

My top tips:

  • CEREAL VARIETIES: Chex cereal is sold in a variety of flavors but the best one for this recipe is the original Rice Chex. If you’re going to use another flavor, I’d only recommend using Corn Chex or Honey Nut. Sticking to basic flavor options for the cereal will let the strawberry flavor shine here!
  • MICROWAVING: I recommend microwaving the white chocolate and vegetable oil in 30 second intervals to prevent any burning. White chocolate can be especially temperamental and prone to clumping, so it’s important to melt it down slowly.
  • BOWL SIZE: Use the biggest bowl you can find for coating the cereal. A big bowl makes it so much easier to ensure the puppy chow gets fully coated in the white chocolate mixture as well as the strawberry coating. I also recommend using a rubber spatula here to avoid crushing the cereal too much.
  • COAT EVENLY: Make sure you fully coat the Chex cereal in the melted white chocolate. This is what the powdered sugar and freeze-dried strawberry powder will stick to. I find that if you have a bowl with a lid, it can be easier to pop the lid on and shake rather than sir.
  • FOOD PROCESSOR: No food processor? No problem! Using a food processor breaks down the freeze-dried strawberries quickly, but if you don’t have one, you can put the strawberries in a large resealable bag and crush with a rolling pin, mallet, or something similar. Just be sure that there aren’t any large chunks left when you’re done.
  • COOLING: It’s important to let this puppy chow cool completely before storing. If you store it while still warm, the powdered sugar will dissolve, and the cereal will lose that crispy texture.
  • STORING: You can store this Strawberry Puppy Chow in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week or in the fridge for 2 weeks, but it’s so addicting, I doubt it will last that long! If you want this to last longer, store it in the freezer for up to 3 months.
