S’mores Puppy Chow is a no bake snack mix made up of Golden Grahams, mini marshmallows, chocolate chips and of course chocolate and powdered sugar covered cereal!

s'mores puppy chow

Whether you call it Puppy Chow or Muddy Buddies, you cannot deny that it is one irresistible treat! For this recipe, I went for a S’mores version, but you really can’t go wrong with my other puppy chow recipes like Butterfinger Puppy Chow, Hot Chocolate Puppy Chow, Captain Crunch Peanut Butter Puppy Chow, and Funfetti Puppy Chow!

Why you’ll love this recipe:

I don’t think I could love this S’mores Puppy Chow more! This version of puppy chow is perfect for summertime fun… replicating the traditional flavors of a s’more without the fuss with a flame. Such a fun twist on a traditional snack!

S’mores Puppy Chow is a fun, easy, and delicious treat for any occasion. Ditch the camping and bring the nostalgic flavors of a campfire classic indoors!

Normally I save s’mores for the summer months, but now you can enjoy the classic combo of marshmallow, graham cracker, and chocolate all year round! Perfect for when you want the flavor of a s’more, without the hassle of putting together a bonfire.

Ingredients you’ll need:

  • Rice Chex
  • Golden Grahams
  • Semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Butter
  • Marshmallow fluff
  • Powdered sugar
  • Mini marshmallows

S’mores Puppy Chow has everything that you love about s’mores in a handy snack mix! There are 2 parts to this recipe, the puppy chow base and then adding the s’mores mix ins. Making the puppy chow base is as simple as measuring a few ingredients, melting them in the microwave and then a little stirring and some shaking.

Once the muddy buddies are finished, you can immediately toss them into a large bowl with your s’mores mix ins to finish off this addictive treat!

How to make the best S’mores Puppy Chow:

  • Pour your Chex and Golden Grahams into a large mixing bowl (preferably one with a lid) and set aside.
  • In a microwave safe bowl, combine 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips with butter. Microwave in 30 second intervals, stirring in-between, until melted and smooth.
  • Stir in the marshmallow fluff, then pour the chocolate marshmallow mixture into the bowl of cereal and gently mix to evenly coat the cereal.
  • Add the powdered sugar into the bowl of coated cereal, then mix (or shake if you have a lid) to coat the cereal evenly.
  • Transfer the puppy chow onto a baking sheet, spread it into an even layer, then sprinkle with the remaining Golden Grahams, mini marshmallows, and chocolate chips. Let cool completely before storing or enjoying!

Amazing news, this is a completely no bake recipe! No oven required, just a little microwaving and mixing. This is the perfect snack for parties, potlucks, movie nights, camping trips, road trips, or just because! A big handful of s’mores puppy chow is always a good idea.

Traditionally, puppy chow is made by coating Chex cereal with melted chocolate and peanut butter, then tossing in powdered sugar for the ultimate sweet treat. Basically, it’s one of the most addicting snacks you’ll ever make. The fact that it can be thrown together in just 15 minutes is both wonderful and dangerous!

There’s no special science behind puppy chow (or muddy buddies, as they’re called in some places depending on where you live or how you were raised)! In fact, the no-fuss, no-bake aspect of this snack makes it the perfect last-second treat for nearly any occasion! Whether you call it muddy buddies or puppy chow, this fun twist on a classic snack mix is always guaranteed to be a crowd favorite!

My top tips:

  • BOWL SIZE: Use the biggest bowl you can find for tossing the cereal! A big bowl makes it so much easier to ensure the puppy chow gets fully coated in chocolate marshmallow mixture as well as the powdered sugar. I also recommend using a rubber spatula here to avoid crushing the cereal too much.
  • CEREAL VARIETIES: Chex cereal is sold in a variety of flavors but the best one for this recipe is the original rice Chex. If you’re going to use another flavor, I’d only recommend using chocolate or corn Chex. Sticking to basic flavor options for the cereal will let the s’mores flavor shine here!
  • MICROWAVING: I recommend microwaving the chocolate chips and butter in 30 second intervals, then stirring in-between. This ensures everything melts evenly and becomes perfectly smooth.
  • COAT EVENLY: Be sure you fully coat the Chex cereal in the chocolate and marshmallow mixture. This is what the powdered sugar will stick to.
  • COOLING: It’s important to let the puppy chow cool completely before storing. If you store it while still warm, the powdered sugar will dissolve, and we don’t want that!
  • STORING: You can store the puppy chow in an airtight container on the counter for up to 3 days, but I doubt it will last that long! If you want this to last longer, wait to mix in the mini marshmallows until you’re closer to enjoying.
  • FOR A CROWD: You can easily double or triple this recipe for a crowd. Just be sure you’re using a bowl large enough to accommodate all the puppy chow!
