Superbowl Crack is a ridiculously tasty, addictive snack made of wavy potato chips loaded with ranch-seasoned melted cheese, crispy bacon, and green onions, perfect for dipping in sour cream or ranch and devouring on game day!

superbowl crack

If you love loaded potatoes or even loaded fries, you’re going to love my Loaded Tater Tot Skewers too!

Why you’ll love this recipe:

If you’ve never had Superbowl Crack, let me introduce you to your new favorite game day obsession. These loaded potato chip nachos are exactly what they sound like: wavy potato chips covered in melty cheese that’s been coated in ranch seasoning, topped with crispy bacon and chopped green onions, then served with sour cream or ranch for dipping. They’re messy, cheesy, crunchy, and wildly addictive in the best way possible.

This is the kind of Super Bowl snack that people hover around. You put the tray down and suddenly everyone’s “just grabbing one more chip.” That’s why they don’t last long—and why people keep asking you to make them every year. Once you put these out on game day, don’t expect leftovers!

Ingredients you’ll need:

  • Wavy potato chips
  • Shredded cheddar cheese
  • Ranch seasoning
  • bacon- cooked and chopped
  • Green onions- chopped

Superbowl Crack works because it’s familiar, but somehow better. It has all the flavors of a loaded baked potato, but instead of a fork and knife situation, you get crispy, ridged potato chips that scoop up cheese and toppings perfectly. Every bite hits salty, creamy, crunchy, and savory all at once, especially when dipped into cool sour cream or ranch.

One of the best things about loaded potato chip nachos is how ridiculously easy they are to make. This is not a complicated recipe or an all-day cooking project. You’re basically layering chips, cheese, and toppings, then melting everything together until it’s bubbly and irresistible. It’s one of those “how is this so good for so little effort?” kind of foods.

That ease is exactly why Superbowl Crack is perfect for game day. When you’re hosting, you don’t want to be stuck in the kitchen while everyone else is watching the game. These come together fast, bake quickly, and look impressive without trying too hard. They’re casual, fun, and totally on-brand for the Super Bowl.

How to make the best Superbowl Crack:

  • Preheat your oven to 425 degrees F, then pour the potato chips out onto a large baking sheet and set aside.
  • In a medium bowl, mix cheddar cheese with ranch seasoning. Sprinkle the cheese on top of the chips, and top with the cooked, chopped bacon.
  • Bake for 5-7 minutes, then remove from the oven and top with chopped green onions, then let cool for 2-3 minutes so the cheese can harden a bit.
  • Break apart the chips and optionally serve with ranch or sour cream on the side for dipping!

And let’s be honest—this snack is addictive for a reason. Ranch-seasoned cheese alone is dangerous. Add bacon and crunchy chips, and you’ve created something people genuinely can’t stop eating. The green onions add just enough freshness to keep it from feeling too heavy, and the dipping sauce takes it over the top.

If you’re looking for a Super Bowl appetizer that everyone will actually eat, this is it. Kids love it. Adults love it. Football fans and non-football fans agree on it. Loaded potato chip nachos don’t need explaining—they sell themselves the second someone takes a bite.

Superbowl Crack is also perfect if you’re tired of making the same snacks every year. It’s different enough to feel exciting, but familiar enough that it won’t scare anyone off. Plus, it’s affordable, customizable, and easy to double or triple for a crowd.

My top tips:

  • POTATO CHIPS: Feel free to use your favorite brand/style of potato chip here. I think wavy or ruffle potato chips work great because they are sturdy enough to hold all the cheese and bacon. Kettle cooked chips would work nicely here too.
  • CHEDDAR CHEESE: I recommend shredding your own cheese rather than buying pre-shredded cheese at the grocery store. Shredding the cheese yourself allows it to melt better compared to pre-shredded cheese that usually has added starch to prevent clumping.
  • RANCH SEASONING: Be sure you’re using ranch seasoning and not ranch dip mix. The ranch dip mix is much saltier and can make these already salty chips a bit too salty. If you’re using the big bottle of ranch seasoning, 3 tbsp of seasoning equals 1 ranch seasoning packet.
  • BACON: I like cooking my bacon fresh for this recipe. When I have a lot of bacon to cook, I opt for the oven method of 425 degrees for 25 minutes (if using thick bacon) and about 15 minutes (if using thin bacon). I then transfer the crispy bacon to paper towels to drain off excess grease and chop it up to make bacon crumbles! If you’re in a pinch, pre-cooked bacon bits will work here as well.
  • DIPPING: Ranch and sour cream are both great options for dipping or drizzling on top of this Superbowl Crack!
